Nadir

Almada /Portugal

Created for the Companhia de Dança De Almada

Nadir unfolds in the intimate, fragile space of a mind at the threshold between life and death. The piece explores the inner conflict of an individual, embodied through three women, who finds herself facing the unbearable weight of existence and the irreversible decision of euthanasia.
These three figures are not separate beings, but fragments of one consciousness, mirrors of despair, doubt, and fleeting hope. They move restlessly within the confines of a bed, their bodies trembling between stillness and collapse, between wanting to hold on and longing to let go.
The choreography weaves silence, breath, and minimal gesture into a language of emotional intensity, a physical dialogue between resistance and surrender. Through their movements, the audience witnesses not death itself, but the fragile humanity that exists in the moments before, the nadir of the soul.
Nadir is not a piece about death, but about the agonizing beauty of being human, the unbearable awareness of one’s own finitude, and the faint glimmer of peace that may follow despair.
